WAU, South Sudan | July 21, 2026 — The Government of Warrap State has expressed its deep sorrow over the tragic killing of Ustaz Michael Majok Madut Lual, a dedicated teacher and agriculture graduate, who was shot dead in Wau on Monday.
Warrap State Minister of Information William Wol Mayom reported that Majok was walking with two colleagues on the eastern side of Wau Town around 3:00 p.m. when armed men on a motorcycle approached them. The minister stated that the attackers appeared to target Majok specifically before opening fire and fleeing the scene.
Majok, who graduated from the Catholic University in Wau, was teaching at Puon-tok Secondary School at the time of his untimely death.
The minister suggested that the suspected attackers were from the Manal Wau community. However, this claim has not been independently verified, and authorities in Western Bahr el Ghazal State have yet to publicly identify any suspects.
Warrap State extended its heartfelt condolences to Majok's family, colleagues, students, and the broader community, urging everyone to stay calm and avoid any retaliatory actions.
The state government also reiterated its commitment to collaborating with the Government of Western Bahr el Ghazal to tackle ongoing security issues related to the Manyang border dispute and to follow through on the resolutions made during the inter-state security meeting held in June.
As of Tuesday, police had not reported any arrests or issued an official statement regarding the killing, and investigations into the incident are still underway.
